High school football: Eagles come up short in district showdown

MAUPIN — In a battle of the top teams in the 1A Special District 1 6-man ranks and two teams taking the field with identical 6-1 records, South Wasco County downed Joseph, 49-28, on Friday, Oct. 28, at South Wasco High School.

The Eagles defeat sets up a log jam at the top of the district standings. Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler and South Wasco County now sit atop the standings with 7-1 records while Joseph and Prairie City/Burnt River are one spot down with 6-2 marks.

The lone loss of the Rattlers came at the hands of Joseph while Prairie City/Burnt River hold the tiebreaker over the Eagles. The Panthers downed Joseph on Sept. 22.
