LA GRANDE — The Grande Ronde Symphony Association will present the first Chamber Series concert of the 2025 season, “A Concert in a Minor Key,” on Saturday, Feb. 22, in La Grande.

As a part of its Noteworthy Chamber Music series the concert will be presented at the home of Tim and Linda Gleeson, 307 C Ave., beginning at 7 p.m.

The program includes a more classical performance by the Grande Ronde Symphony woodwind and brass players. They will play a variety of pieces from throughout the baroque and classical periods, ranging from Vivaldi and Bach, through Beethoven and “Pavane” by Fauré.

This Noteworthy concert will feature a special guest artist performance by Baker City native Sammi Stone on oboe, accompanied by EOU alumni Cilla Coe on piano. They will present the lyrical music of composer C. Nielsen in the “Fantasy Pieces for Oboe and Piano.” Nielson once wrote in a program note regarding the two pieces, “The first — slow — piece gives the oboe the opportunity to sing out its notes quite as beautifully as this instrument can. The second is more humorous, roguish, with an undertone of Nordic nature and forest rustlings in the moonlight.”

Performing artists in the Grande Ronde Symphony woodwind group include Steve Tanner on French horn, Kelly Hardy on bassoon, Sammi Jo Stone playing oboe, Greg Johnson on clarinet and Janice Cowan playing flute. The Feb. 22 concert will mark the second time this group of musicians has come together to perform in the GRS Chamber Series.

The Grande Ronde Symphony brass players include Steve Tanner, horn; Edie Engelmann, trumpet; Isaac Lynch, tuba; Darren Dutto, trombone and Greg Johnson playing soprano saxophone.

Tickets are $35 and available online only at GrandeRondeSymphony.org. A season ticket for the Chamber Series concert is also available for $90.

Seating for this concert is limited to 30. Refreshments will be served.
