Oveson takes first at Catherine Creek Invitational

Former Wallowa High School star Haley Oveson and teammate Kirsten Johnson set new girls course records at the Catherine Creek Invitational on Friday in Union. They also locked the team win for the La Grande girls.

Enterprise, competing without a complete team, saw Krista Stangel finish third in 21:05, behind Johnson’s 19:54 and Oveson’s 19:46. The former record, also held by Oveson, was 20:13. Michael Swart came in fourth for Enterprise in boys individuals. Joseph’s top finisher was Kyle Clough, who placed 13th.

The Wallowa girls finished in fourth place, the boys in tenth. The Joseph boys team placed eighth.

Wallowa, Joseph, Enterprise, Union and La Grande will meet again next Friday at the Wallowa Invitational at 3 p.m.
