4-Hers earn Spring Fair awards

Wallowa County’s 4-H Spring Fair was held recently, June 15-17 in Enterprise at the fairgrounds. Spring Fair focuses on cooking and sewing competitions, oral presentations, archery, and the Thursday evening fashion revue. 4-H extension agent Debi Schreiber estimated that approximately 90 4-H members competed before judges in all the events.

Awards for the fair were presented at the public Fashion Revue and awards ceremony on Thursday, June 17.

Spring Fair Awards

Special awards: Gingher scissors from the 4-H Leaders Association were awarded to the champion in Crochet skills, Alison Curry.

Members competed for awards in the Tablesetting contest. Champion junior, Joscelyn Stangel, received a gift award from Liberty Grange. Champion intermediate member, Shelby Harshman, received a gift certificate from Enterprise Stationery. Champion Senior member, Relissa Wortman, received a cash award sponsored by Liberty Grange GWA.

The best recipes using dairy products received $20 cash awards from Oregon Dairy Women. Cash awards were presented to Joscelyn Stangel, Shelby Harshman, Sara Freels, Marcus Anderson and Lucas Stangel. The Best Junior Cook, Sierra Hopkins, received a gift certificate from Hurricane Creek Grange. The Best Intermediate Cook, Shelby Harshman, received Joy of Cooking from The Bookloft. The Best Senior Cook, Sara Freels, received a cookbook from Kris & Chuck Fraser.

Plaques were awarded to Champion competitors in individual and team presentations.

Individual presentation awards were: Junior, Baylee Shelton (award by Wallowa County Fairboard); Intermediate, Ayesha Wortman (award by Ella Daggett); Senior, Lelia Wortman (award by Alpine Insurance).

Team awards were: Juniors, Sierra Hopkins and Madison Ribich (award by Greg & Eva Oveson). Intermediates, Lucas Stangel & Marcus Anderson (award by Dr. Gary Underhill). Seniors, Relissa & Riley Wortman (Harley & Agnes Caudle Award by Rhee Lathrop & Arlyne Makin).

A red ribbon presentation relating to bees, by Kylie Quinby, was awarded $5 from the Oregon Beekeepers.

Fashion Revue champions received trophies. First Year Junior, Brittany Fowler (award by Cloud 9 Bakery); Intermediate, Karla Wilsey (award by South Fork Grange). Senior, Rayanna Mitchell (award sponsored by Liberty Grange). The champion crochet fashion revue member, Alison Curry, received a cash award sponsored by Liberty Grange.

Archery tournament results: Class 2 champion, Kyle Stangel; Res. Champion Mickey Stenkamp; blue: Kolton Kolbaba. Class 5 champion, Matthew Hurley; Res. Champion, Caleb Goins. Class 7 champion, Jared Zwanziger; Res. Champion, Beate Lindemann. High Point Archer, Jared Zwanziger, received a trophy sponsored by Don & Bessie Rynearson. Jared placed 4th in the State competition. The Most Improved Archer, Michael Collins, received a trophy sponsored by South Fork Grange.
