The November roundup to gather cattle in the Chesnimnus for drive to lower pastures is now in full swing. Cattlemen of Enterprise, Joseph and the Imnaha went out to the fall grazing lands in the government reserve last week and will be in the saddle several days longer. Among these are: Henry Haas, C.F. Graves, Thomas Marks, Charles Rice, J.M. Blakely, Roy and T.S. Tippett and W.P. Warnock.
Gary Huffman, who has been in the lower part of the valley, has gone to the Imnaha with Jay H. Dobbins sheep. Mr. Dobbin has more than 8,000 sheep on the Imnaha.
Edgar Marvin paid 2 cents for his election as sheriff of Wallowa County. His statement of campaign expenses was filed the first of the week and it contained one loan item: stamp for mailing, 2 cent.
FLORA The many sidewalks and crosswalks that have been built along our streets recently is good proof that the residents have grown weary of mud plodding and arose as a body and faced the emergency with grit and determination.

Effective Dec. 1, the Wallowa Sun will be consolidated with the Enterprise Chieftain. The good will and the physical assets of the Sun have been purchased by the Chieftain, and the Chieftain will take over immediately the Suns subscription list. Mr. Harold Hamstreet, owner and publisher of the Sun, will be employed as superintendent of the mechanical department of the Chieftain.
Services dedicating the new Enterprise Community Church will be held Sunday, Nov. 29.
PARADISE Heavy rains fell throughout this part of the country the fore part of the week, taking off what snow remained and leaving plenty of mud behind.
Charles McClain, one of the earliest settlers of Wallowa County, passed away at his home in Joseph Thursday, Nov. 20, following a brief illness of pneumonia. He was 68 years old. When he was three his parents moved to Wallowa County and took up a homestead, which is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. N.E. Beaudoin.

Approximately 15 percent of the total property tax bill in Wallowa County, $169,000, has been paid this month by seven of the largest taxpayers in the county. The largest taxpayer is the J. Herbert Bate Co., which wrote out a check for $75,082. The others are Pacific Power and Light, Idaho Power Co., Union Pacific, Boise Cascade, West Coast Telephone and Wallowa County Grain Growers.
The Oregon State Fish Commission is advertising in this issue of the Chieftain for bids for the construction of a dam fishway on the Lostine River one mile south of Lostine at the citys water supply dam site.
Contestants for this years FFA Sweetheart are Janice Makin, senior class; Pam Preece, junior; Nancy Wilcox, sophomore; and Joyce Wingfield, freshman.
FLORA Due to the windstorm, the electricity around Flora went off about 12 oclock Monday night and crews were unable to get the trouble fixed until about 5 oclock Tuesday evening.

Enterprise residents John M. Hillock, Charlotte McIver and Gary Wishart were recognized as the best in their realm for 1987 at the Wallowa County Chamber of Commerces annual banquet. They were named, respectively, Business Leader, Civic Leader and Educator of the Year.
One of Wallowa Countys most beloved residents, Josie Irene Zumwalt, 102, died Thursday, Nov. 19, in the Wallowa County Nursing Home where she had made her home since 1977.
The Willamina Bulldogs provided little competition Saturday as Enterprise rolled to a 24-0 victory in the quarter finals of the Class A state football playoffs. The win was the second straight shutout for the Savages.
Don and Rosemary Green of Joseph were presented a community service award last week at the annual Oregon Arts Together meeting in Eugene. The award was in recognition for the couples volunteer work in developing arts in education and promoting performing arts in Wallowa County and Eastern Oregon.
