- <p>Here's a scene of an old-fashioned election day at Imnaha, 1952, at Duckett Hardware and Garage. According to information handwritten on the back, Bruce Lydell is discussing a question of election procedure with election board chairman A.L. Duckett, who is reading election laws. Voters sitting on the nail kegs are identified as Hazel Warnock and Ruth Wortman, and Josie Hayes is one of the seated women.</p>

In the general election last week Wallowa County voted much the same as the rest of the state on the initiative and referendum measures. However, woman suffrage lost here, the vote being Yes 802 and No 847 (but won in the state vote). On the county high school, the vote was 1111 against the school and 655 for it. The school then will be discontinued.
The Golden Rule Mercantile company, with principal offices and place of business at Flora, has filed with the county clerks articles of incorporation the capital stock is $25,000, consisting of 250 shares of $100 each. The incorporators are Mac Wood, W.H. Casey and Clinton Van Fleet.
S.T. Tippett brought in 19 thoroughbred Hereford bulls last Sunday. He took them to his cattle ranch in the east part of the county. Every season sees marked improvement in Wallowa County stock.
FLORA Ed Wilcox, one of Edens famous bachelors, made a trip to outside points last week but returned to Troy in time to cast a vote in favor of woman suffrage (?).

The cannons which have adorned the courthouse lawn in Enterprise and the streets of Wallowa for the past several years are now on their way to mills where the metal will be reclaimed and used in the prosecution of the war. Brief ceremonies were held yesterday when representatives of the army came with a truck to take the cannons.
E.T. Jaco has sold the fine ranch on Alder Slope which he has owned and farmed for many years. Ted Juve, the buyer, will take possession immediately. Mr. Juve has lived with his parents near Mr. Jaco for most of his life and so is familiar with the farm he expects to run.
Last Thursday Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cool of Divide went out to dig their potatoes. On their return they found their house smoldering and before they could get any of the contents out the house burst into flames, which consumed everything inside. Bill ruefully admitted that even a fine dressed buck was included in the rest of the destroyed food stuff.
FLORA Clyde Wulff trucked a load of cattle to Enterprise for Bill Fordice of Lost Prairie and as he missed trying to pass a band of sheep he tipped his truck over, spilling the cattle out. Fortunately no great damage was done. They reloaded the cattle and went on to Enterprise.

Farm equipment dealers would all grow broke if their products lasted as long as the tractor owned by Richard Brock. He is operating a one-man sawmill on his place on Alder Slope, at the edge of the timber, with a 1918 model tractor which has been chugging away faithfully now for 44 years.
The Texaco Service Station at 402 S. River St. has been opened by Wayne Driskell under the name of Waynes Texaco.
JOSEPH At the city election in Nov. 6, Shirley Fowler was elected city treasurer, as she had taken Marion Longleys place, when she resigned, and Jack Cathcart and Floyd Kennedy were re-elected for councilman.
TROY A few fish have been taken out of the Troy waters this week. Claude Heuston of Troy caught a 12-pound steelhead Saturday. The fish was 32 ½ inches long.

The Wallowa Story, an automatic 45-minute slide presentation of the history of Wallowa County, accompanied by a synchronized narrative, is bound to become one of the permanent legacies of Wallowa Countys centennial year celebration. Initiated by the Wallowa County History Group over a year ago, it will be shown for the first time Nov. 17 on OK Theatres big screen.
Quietly and without fanfare not even a cake the Enterprise Post Office marked its 100th birthday Monday. Post office employees are postmaster Tom Bunch, Nancy Cannon, Sue Coleman, Geraldine Conant, Jack Teece, Ron Morgan, Mark Marks and Brenda Cannon.
NORTH END NEWS The North End Community Club met at the Rimrock Inn for the annual harvest luncheon, with six members, two guests and three children present. Attending were Evelyn Wilsey, Myrtle Wulff, Donna Bacon, Jane Curry, Bobbi Couch, Eleanor Butler, Jessi Bacon, David Curry and Heather Wulff.
IMNAHA The Phillipses drove cattle to Dug Bar this week, with Dave and Mona Glaus, Bill Matthews and Don Bronson doing the cowboying, and Chris Phillips hauling in supplies.
