A dislocated knee forced Tavin Hurley out of half of the boys’ basketball season, but his production since then has gained recognition.
Old Oregon coaches casting district awards voted Hurley, a junior at Joseph High School, an honorable mention. On a wounded left leg, he hobbled out of the Dec. 18 game against Enterprise High. After two months, he returned to help the Eagles turnaround in time for the post-season. After losing four of five games, they won four of five while advancing to the district final and gaining a spot in the state playoffs.

Hurley wasn’t alone. Three teammates on the 18-8 Eagles earned honors. Senior Corby Makin, the leading scorer, was named to the all-district first-team. Joining Hurley in giving Joseph a tall and physical frontcourt, senior forward Devin Patton was a second-teamer. Senior guard Chris Harshman, a sharp shooter from long range, also earned an honorable mention.
