A 10-acre lighting-caused fire is burning on Horse Ridge in the Bear Gulch area of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, east of Enterprise, according to a July 3 report from the Northeast Oregon Interagency Fire Information Center. Crews are already on-site working to contain the fire. Several other small fires reported in the east Wallowa County area have been completely contained. Most were lightning-caused although a .01-acre fire at Buck Point/Hat Point Road in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area spread from an abandoned campfire and a quarter acre fire in the Burnt Powder Fire Zone, west of Unity, was listed as human caused. Several very small lightning-caused fires in areas near Highway 3 toward Lewiston were immediately contained.
