Officers of the Enterprise-Joseph Lions were installed for the 2015-16 year. Past District Governor Gerald Hopkins installed Jerold Hustafa, president; Charlie Kissinger, vice-president; Brian Oliver, secretary; and Bill Nickell, treasurer.

A discussion followed on plans for the new year, which included organization for Cycle Oregon participants, arriving on Sept. 17 and leaving the 18th. The Lions will be cleaning up the grounds following the last leg of the cyclists. Members suggested holding a salmon feed for the group during their layover, and a committee was formed to plan the event and get the information to Cycle Oregon.

A major portion of the discussion centered around the Fergi Ski area, which the Lions hope to acquire within 18 months. Members will meet to continue cleaning an area of 18 acres — thinning, cutting trash and making burn piles for a later date. Chair Kissinger told the group that the project was “doable,” but would require a few weekends of the Lion volunteers working together to achieve goals.

The Lions asked Hopkins what assistance might be available for the large number of requests for glasses. Since referrals were taking place throughout Wallowa County, Hopkins encouraged the sight and hearing chairman to work with the club to be selective on the numbers they could afford. He also stated that a lens laboratory was being constructed by the Sight and Hearing Foundation, and that it was the hope of Oregon Lions to cut the costs by two-thirds for individual Lions clubs.
