Joseph wrestlers competed at the Elgin Invitational this past weekend, Dec. 16-17.

Two wrestlers placed in the tournament. Taking first place in the 182-pound weight class was sophomore Matt Staigle. Senior Trevor McWaters earned second place in the 170-pound division.

Though there were a couple of victories for the Joseph team, many of the wrestlers are inexperienced. “We have a lot of young kids,” said head coach Tim Kiesecker. “We have a lot to work on. One of our bigger projects will be working on following through on take-downs.”

Other members of the Joseph wrestling team include: freshman Robbie DeVore (152), sophomore David Walker (160), sophomore Daniel Parker (132), sophomore Wyatt Warnock (220), and senior Tyrel Warnock (220).

At a previous tournament held in Culver, Staigle and McWaters both placed fifth in their weight divisions.

The Joseph wrestlers now gear up for the Pomeroy tournament on Wednesday, Dec. 28.
