JOSEPH? The Wallowa County Farmers Markets 2010 season poster is now a prize winner.
The poster won the Oregon Farmers Market Associations annual poster contest as the best among 13 entries from across the state.
Erica Reininger of Joseph designed the poster, featuring a painting by Joseph artist Leslie LeViner. Reininger is a graphic designer and produce grower who sells goods at the farmers market and serves on the market board of directors. Reininger also co-owns Arrowhead Chocolates in Joseph.
LeViner specializes in outdoor scenes painted in the French plein aire style. Her work is featured at Kellys Gallery on Main in Joseph.
The vegetable plot in the poster painting is that of farmers market founder and Board President Beth Gibans, who owns Backyard Gardens, a market garden and catering company.
The poster captured the essence of what farmers markets are about, authentic food planted, nurtured and harvested by local people on the land they love, bringing freshness and the best nutritional value to your table, said Chris Kell, a former association board member.
Another painting by LeViner is featured on this years Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts poster.
