Another band of elk will be brought to Wallowa County from Jacksons Hole, Wyo., in a few days. There will be from 15 to 30 elk in the band. An effort will be made this year to have the whole band moved from Billy Meadows at Chesnimnus to a pasture at the base of the Wallowa Mountains near Joseph.
IMNAHA Money must be scarce in our city. A couple who wanted to get married had to borrow $10 to help them out.
FLORA G.H. Crossland of the Grande Ronde River made a trip to Wallowa via the new wagon road which is being constructed from Troy up river and across Powwatka ridge to Wallowa. This road is nearing completion, and also the new bridge which spans the river a few miles above Troy, and will give to the people of Troy and vicinity a much nearer route to a railroad station.
Hungry boarders gathered at the Commercial Hotel last Saturday night to learn there was not a bite to eat in the house. Lee Kamaye, who has been running the place for several months had departed without making provisions for the future of the business or apparent thought for the appetites of the boarders. The telephone was taken out, the electric lights shut off and also the water, after all the pipes had frozen and burst.

The annual tournament of the Eagle Cap Ski Club will be held at the course on Stanley hill near Joseph this Sunday, according to Jack Hogan, who is in charge of the arrangements. There will be novelty races, downhill races and slalom races, the later involving turns passing through gates. Alfred Butterfield, president of the ski club, is assisting with the arrangements.
Reed Wade, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade of Lostine, who made a big hit with the local Lions Club, when he spoke during his recent furlough, has been promoted from the rank of private to that of corporal, and has also been elevated from the position of tank driver to tank commander.
WALLOWA Crawford Oveson and Max Bird represented Wallowa on the county mens team that played the Globe Trotters at Joseph Wednesday night. In the hilarious game, where the colored team played for comedy, the score was lost track of, but victory was conceded to the Globe Trotters.
THE BUTTES Toney Goebel and Ralph Beard stopped at Jewells Saturday night. They came across from Crow Creek with a snowplow. They continued on their way Sunday but only opened the road to Midway as the engine wasnt working very well. Some of the people from Zumwalt started to town Sunday afternoon, but were disappointed at finding they could get only part way.

As the result of some expressions of disapproval of the practice of giving confiscated game meat for use in the hot lunch programs, a new procedure has been worked out by the Department of Agriculture and Oregon Game Commission. The department has volunteered the services of William (Butch) Moffit, a licensed meat inspector, to inspect all meat donated by the commission to the schools.
Wallowa County has lost one of its most colorful and successful farmers in the passing of Poley Beaudoin on Feb. 23 at Phoeniz, Ariz., where he and his wife had gone about a month ago to spend several weeks.
The Wallowa Cougars, winners in the Sub-District 8B tournament in Wallowa County, will face a tough North Powder team in the first round of the district finals at the Wallowa gym Friday. The Cougars have a season record of 21 wins and two losses. Bob Long leads the scoring with 307 points. The friends of Miss Lil Collinsworth will miss her at the Enterpriser Department Store after this week. She is retiring on Social Security after 35 years with the store, where she first went to work in 1928.

The controversial issue of siting an ODOT maintenance station on the hill west of Enterprise will likely come before the county court before its settled, following the Wallowa County Planning Commissions narrow decision to uphold an appeal of a zoning permit for the facility Tuesday night.
With only a rope tow in operation last weekend, a few of the Ferguson Ridge regulars appeared on the slopes anxious to hitch a ride with Sno-Cat operator Jim Russell. The T-Bar motor broke down and another motor is being freighted from Denver.
Ten county wrestlers are bound for the state wrestling tournament: Jorge Aguilar, Steve Strong, Tim Testerman and Jason Gissell of Enterprise High School; Mark Winchel, Kirk Tyler, Blake Carper and Sam Easley of Joseph; and Jason Crenshaw and Erik Knifong of Wallowa.
NORTH END NEWS There were more than 50 people attending the Grange chili feed Saturday night. Myrtle Wulff won the traveling prize and one for low score in pinochle and Kenneth Wulff won for high score.
