Oregon Health and Science University has the best hospital in the state and the University of Washington has one of the best in the nation, according to new ratings just released by U.S. News and World Report.
University of Washington reached the hospital “honor roll” thanks to its nine highly-rated specialties. OHSU didn’t reach that elite company, but it had five top-50 specialties, including urology, cancer, and geriatrics.
Kimberly Leonard with U.S. News and World Report says the ratings are geared toward patients with specific health problems.
Leonard explained, “Maybe if you’re an elderly patient who has pancreatic cancer – most hospitals won’t want to perform surgery on someone with that condition. So that’s really where our rankings come in and each patient has to decide what’s important to him or her.”
Behind OHSU, Oregon’s highest rated hospitals are Providence’s Portland and St. Vincent’s medical centers. St. Charles in Bend is the highest-rated Oregon hospital outside the Portland area.
