TROY — An annual broodstock collection event and steelhead workshop at the Wenaha Wildlife Area on the Grande Ronde River near Troy will take place Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18-19.

The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 11.

Cost is $70 for the workshop for adults 18 and older or $50 for youths 17 and younger. Registration for this workshop is open for new participants only. Anyone who has previously registered and participated in a Troy Steelhead 101 workshop is not eligible to register for this workshop due to limited space and available gear. The workshop provides an opportunity for new anglers to learn.

Check-in time for the workshop is Friday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m.

Although the workshop is intended for new anglers, the Troy broodstock event is open to everyone.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will partner with the Association of Northwest Steelheaders to teach a how-to-fish class as part of the broodstock event.

Workshop fees include instruction, use of ODFW equipment and program materials and a one-year membership to the Association of Northwest Steelheaders. ODFW has all the equipment participants will need, but anyone who has their own fishing equipment is welcome to bring it and instructors can show how best to use it.

Participants are encouraged to donate the fish they catch to ODFW’s broodstock program, but if anyone catches a legal fish and wants to keep it, that’s OK as well.
