The Wallowa County Courthouse will be the site of a rally on Monday, June 24 calling for equal rights, reproductive freedom and an end to gender-based violence. The event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

In solidarity with the Women’s Strike 2024 and Women’s March National Day of Action, the Wallowa County Democrats, Moderates, and Progressives organization is inviting members of the community to a demonstration in Enterprise for equal rights, reproductive freedom, and an end to gender-based violence.

Echoing the Icelandic gathering of 1975, where women went on strike to showcase the essential value of their contributions to society, this event aims to highlight the significance of women’s paid and unpaid labor.

The demonstration will take place on Monday, June 24 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Wallowa County Courthouse, 110 S. River St. in Enterprise.

June 24 is the second anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the Dobbs case, overturning Roe v. Wade. The rights of women are under threat now more than ever, event organizers said in a press release.

The event welcomes individuals from all backgrounds and affiliations to come together peacefully. Attendees are encouraged to bring signs.

People seeking more information about the nationwide strike can visit Women’s Strike 2024 on Facebook or the Women’s March website.
