Saturday basketball previews: County teams face league foes

All six Wallowa County prep basketball teams are in action on Saturday, Jan. 27. Here are previews of all the games:
Grant Union boys at Enterprise

When: 5:30 p.m., Saturday Jan. 27.
Records: Grant Union 11-6 overall, 3-2 2A Blue Mountain Conference; Enterprise 12-6 overall, 2-3 2A Blue Mountain Conference.
OSAA rankings: Grant Union is 14th. Enterprise is ranked 21st.
The Prospectors took a win in the first meeting of these two teams, rolling to a 70-56 conference victory on Jan. 5 in John Day.
Grant Union makes the trip to Enterprise after suffering a one-point loss at home to Heppner on Friday, Jan. 26.
Enterprise is back in its home gym, riding a two-game win streak including a 48-34 victory on the road in Irrigon on Friday, Jan. 26. Enterprise currently is fourth in the conference standings with Grant Union in third.

Grant Union girls at Enterprise

Records: Grant Union 1-16 overall, 0-5 2A Blue Mountain Conference; Enterprise 12-6 overall, 5-0 2A Blue Mountain Conference.
OSAA rankings: Grant Union is 28th. Enterprise is ranked 14th.
The Prospectors, sitting at the bottom of the conference standings, travel to the undefeated conference leader.
Grant Union has won a single game to date and enters the Outlaw gym on a 15-game loss streak.
Enterprise has seen victories in their last five games, all conference matchups. In the first game with the Lady Prospectors, Enterprise cruised to a 34-point win on Jan. 5.
Pine Eagle boys at Joseph
When: 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27.
Records: Pine Eagle 1-18 overall, 0-6 1A Old Oregon League; Joseph 7-11 overall, 3-3 1A Old Oregon League.
OSAA rankings: Pine Eagle is 79th. Joseph is 44th.
The Spartans have dropped their previous nine games and sit at the bottom of the league standings without a league victory. On Jan. 12, Pine Eagle dropped a 48-35 game to Joseph.
Eagle fans are back for the third home game in a row and celebrating a big win over Wallowa on Friday, Jan. 26. Joseph and the Wallowa Cougars now sit with identical 3-3 1A Old Oregon League records.
Pine Eagle girls at Joseph
When: 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27.
Records: Pine Eagle 6-12 overall, 1-5 1A Old Oregon League; Joseph 8-10 overall, 4-2 1A Old Oregon League.
OSAA rankings: Pine Eagle is 41st. Joseph is ranked 20th.
Pine Eagle makes the trip to Joseph after a home loss to Powder Valley on Friday, Jan. 26. Joseph downed the Lady Spartans 35-52 in the previous meeting of the two teams on Jan. 12.
The Lady Cougars were shocked by Wallowa at home on Friday, Jan. 26, losing by 12 points. Now on a two-game skid, the Joseph girls need to get back to winning as the Lady Eagles sit fifth in the league standings.
Wallowa boys at Imbler
When: 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27.
Records: Wallowa 9-11 overall, 3-3 1A Old Oregon League; Imbler 18-2 overall, 6-0 1A Old Oregon League.
OSAA rankings: Wallowa is 40th. Imbler is No. 2.
For the fourth consecutive game, the Cougar boys are on the road, this time to meet the second-ranked 1A team in the state.
Wallowa comes off a county loss to rival Joseph on Friday, Jan. 26 and currently is tied for fifth in the league standings.
Imbler downed Wallowa, 49-27, on Jan. 12 and has won seven straight.
Wallowa girls at Imbler
When: 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27.
Records: Wallowa 12-7 overall, 3-3 1A Old Oregon League; Imbler 15-5 overall, 5-1 1A Old Oregon League.
OSAA rankings: Wallowa is 23rd. Imbler is No. 6.
The Lady Cougars make the trip to Imbler coming off a road victory over Joseph on Friday, Jan. 26, the team’s third win in the past four games.
In a home game versus Imbler on Jan. 12, Wallowa suffered a 13-point league loss.
Imbler is back home for the second game in two days riding a two-game win streak after a home loss to Joseph on Jan. 18. With only a single Old Oregon League loss, the Lady Panthers continue to chase undefeated Echo and one-loss Powder Valley in the league race.
