Outlaw girls capture district track title; boys finish third

HERMISTON — Using a strong performance in the sprint events, the Enterprise girls’ track and field team claimed a 2A Special District 4 team title on Saturday, May 11 on the track at Hermiston High School.
The Outlaws finished 128 points while the Mustangs finished with 114.5. With a 110-point total, Stanfield/Echo finished third.

The Enterprise boys had a third-place showing for the day behind second-place Stanfield/Echo and champion Weston-McEwen. The TigerScots dominated the day with 218.5 points followed by the Tigers’ 103. The Outlaws ended their day with 80 points.
In all, 14 Outlaws qualified for the state meet, to be held Thursday and Friday, May 16-17 at Hayward Field in Eugene. (See the related story, this page.)
Enterprise sophomore Owyhee Harguess returned home from Hermiston with district titles in four events. Harguess won the 200 meters and 400 meters and was a member of the winning 4-by-100 and 4-by-400 relay teams.
Taking part in her first district meet, freshman Kyra Brown picked up a district title in her first year, winning the 800 meters. Junior Nevaeh James is now a double district champion, taking the top times in both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdle events.
Joining Owyhee Harguess on the winning 4-by-100 relay team are sophomore Mercy Peters, James and sophomore McKenzie Harguess. The champion 4-by-400 relay team was comprised of James, the Harguess sisters and senior Zoe Hermens.
The boys 4-by-400 relay team — junior Andrew Nordtvedt, senior Ransom Peters and freshmen Malakai Powers and Emrys Hobbs — won a district title in the 4-by-400 relay. The team’s winning team was 3 minutes, 37.53 seconds.
