Joseph opens track and field season with wins

THE DALLES — The track and field season is off to a good start for the Joseph Eagles after the team opened the season at the Mullen Leavitt Invitational on the Wahtonka Track in The Dalles on Saturday, March 16.

Multiple Eagles started their year with wins starting with sophomore Caleigh Johnson taking the title in the javelin event. Johnson started her sophomore year of competition with a personal best throw of 109 feet, 5 inches, the top throw of the meet.
Just a single inch back, teammate and sophomore Emmerson Hook placed second.
Joseph sophomore Annie Rose Miller was the top vaulter in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 8 feet, 6 inches.
Eagle junior Basey Dawson outperformed the rest of the competitors in the triple jump, setting a personal best mark of 32 feet, 4.75 inches for a first-place showing.
Not to be outdone, the Joseph boys grabbed a few top spots starting with junior Jett Leavitt leading the pack in the 800 meters, finishing with a time of 2:02.89.
Eagle junior Gavin Russell finished his day with a championship in the javelin event, taking a throw of 146 feet, 2 inches to take the title.

The Joseph team joins many other area teams on Saturday, March 23 in Union for the 15th annual Pepsi Invitational.
Field events start at 11 a.m. with running beginning at 1 p.m.
