2025 state track meet pushed back to after Memorial Day

- The Enterprise girls team celebrates its second-place finish at the 2024 2A state track and field championship meet on May 18, 2024 in Eugene. Next year, any such celebration will be delayed by a couple of weeks: The state meet is scheduled to start on May 29, 2025.
EUGENE — Local track and field families may wish to hold off scheduling the family cabin rental for next year’s Memorial Day weekend. Someone in the family may have practice over the long weekend.
The Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) has announced the state track and field meet will begin action on Thursday, May 29 for the 2025 season. That’s after 2025’s Memorial Day, which falls on May 26.

The later date is in sharp contrast to this season’s start date of state track and field on May 16.
Scheduling with Hayward Field in Eugene has been identified as the reasoning behind the change.
The late May start for the meet, which will wrap up on Saturday, May 31, could raise conflicts with the dates for schools’ commencement ceremonies.
