JOSEPH — The Joseph Charter School Eagles put on an offensive clinic — and needed most of those points — to claim a 74-53 shootout over Triangle Lake in the first round of the 1A six-man football playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 9.
The 74 points was the most the Eagles have scored this season. And the playoff win marked the third straight win for the Eagles, now 7-3 on the season.
The playoff road doesn’t get any easier for the Eagles, the eighth seed in the playoffs. On Friday, the team travels to Coos County for a quarterfinal game against undefeated Powers High School, the No. 1 seed.
The Outlaws will be challenged to contain the Cruisers’ high-powered offense, which has scored at least 40 points in all nine of its games. And Powers is stingy on defense as well: It’s held opponents to fewer than 10 points five times this season, including last week’s 51-6 first-round win over Eddyville Charter.
(The Eagles defeated Eddyville Charter in the first round of the playoffs last season.)
The Joseph-Powers game kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 at Marshfield High School, 972 Ingersoll Ave. in Coos Bay.
Enterprise falls to Myrtle Point/Pacific
The Enterprise Outlaws bowed out of the state 2A football playoffs with a 49-0 first-round loss on the road to Myrtle Point/Pacific on Friday, Nov. 8.
But it was a successful season for the Outlaws, who earned a spot in the playoffs despite being bumped up to the 2A level for this season. This season also marked the second straight time the team qualified for postseason play.
The Outlaws posted a 4-2 record in Special District 6 league play and finished second in the league, just behind No. 1-ranked Heppner.
The Outlaws finished with a 5-4 overall record. The team graduates just six seniors — Tyler Knapp, Gunnar McDowell, Joel Frey, Dominic Hosley, Pearce Schnetzky and Trey Charlton.
