1A boys basketball: Joseph to host Pilot Rock, Wallowa travels to Echo in tourney openers

- Basketball is the leading cause of youth sports injuries, according to a new study from Johns Hopkins University.
The Joseph Eagles boys basketball team will host Pilot Rock and the Wallowa Cougars will travel to Echo on Tuesday, Feb. 13 for opening-round games in the 1A Old Oregon League tournament.
Local fans of the Joseph boys basketball team will have the opportunity to cheer on the Eagles in the opening round of the 1A Old Oregon League tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 13 as the Eagles host the Pilot Rock Rockets.

The two teams will take to the floor starting at 6 p.m. Joseph brings a 9-13 overall record and a 5-5 1A Old Oregon League mark to the game. Pilot Rock makes the trip after playing to a 11-13 overall record and a 4-6 1A Old Oregon League record.
Joseph dropped its final two regular-season games, both home affairs. Pilot Rock comes into the game as winners of five of its last six games, including a season closing 41-37 victory over Powder Valley.
The winner of the game advances to meet Union on Thursday.
Tuesday marks the first game between the Eagles and Rockets this season.
Meanwhile, the Wallowa boys basketball team will take a trip to Echo on Tuesday, Feb. 13 as both squads open play in the 1A Old Oregon League tournament. The Cougars will take the court versus the Cougars starting at 5 p.m.
Wallowa enters the tournament after finishing the season with a 10-14 overall record,

including a 4-6 Old Oregon League finish. Wallowa has lost four of its last five games after posting a six-game win streak earlier in the season.
Echo (14-10 overall, 6-4 in league) plays host after alternating wins and losses in the team’s games since Jan. 13, wrapping up the league season with a 78-74 high scoring victory over Elgin.
Echo ended the season fifth in the league standings while Wallowa wrapped up the year tied for seventh with the Rockets of Pilot Rock.
The winner advances to take on the Cove Leopards on Thursday, Feb. 15.
