The Monday evening community dinners at The Place in Joseph are a great time to relax and have good food without preparing it or washing dishes. It is a wonderful time and place to meet friends and to make new friends.
About 100 Wallowa County neighbors enjoyed the free meal during each of the first two Mondays of February. And each time there was more food than could have been served.
The community dinner leadership team created this new community experience to enjoy during February, March and April. They assure that the volunteers use food-service practices required by the Oregon Health Authority.
The chefs are members of the community who have the training and experience with food preparation.
A variety of community organizations provide the volunteers who assist with the serving. The Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center sponsored the volunteers for the April 5 dinner and Rotary Club volunteers served on April 12.
The Soroptimists are also among the volunteers who not only help in the kitchen and dining room, but also contribute donations to defray the cost of the food.
I encourage everyone to attend one or more of the community dinners and take advantage of a free meal. Enjoy delicious food, visit your fellow Wallowa County neighbors and let the volunteers do the dishes and cleanup.
