Track and field: Harguess, James lead Outlaw girls in Nyssa meet

NYSSA — Led by two individual victories by junior Nevaeh James, a win by sophomore Owyhee Harguess and the two Outlaw runners joining with teammates to win a relay event, the Enterprise girls finished second at the Don Walker Invitational on Friday, April 19, behind only host 3A Nyssa.
The host Bulldog girls ended the day with 82.5 points while Enterprise compiled 68 points at the meet. The Enterprise boys tied for 14th among the 24 teams in attendance.

James not only added points to the Enterprise total, but also set both a personal record and shattered an Enterprise school record in the 100-meter hurdles. Breaking the 16-second mark with a time of 15.95 seconds, James set the new mark for all Outlaws, taking the title from Elsa Steen’s previous time of 16.33 seconds.
Although not a new school record, James also set a new personal best time in the 300-meter hurdle victory, posting a time of 47.37 seconds.
Harguess inched close to breaking the one-minute mark in her victory in the 400 meters, winning in a time of 1 minute, 0.02 seconds.
The duo joined sophomores Mercy Peters and McKenzie Harguess to outduel the rest of the field in the 4-by-100 relay, winning in a time of 52.09 seconds. The Harguess duo, James and Zoe Hermens settled for second in the 4-by-400 relay.
The relays were also the high point for the boys as the best finish of the day came in the 4-by-400 relay as the Outlaw group of Andrew Nordtvedt, Owen Cunningham, Ransom Peters and Emrys Hobbs picked up fourth place with a time of 3:45.65.
Peters also had a top 10 finish in the 100 meters, placing ninth while Hobbs picked up seventh in the 200 meters, recording a career best time of 24.03 seconds.

Enterprise is back on the track on Friday, April 26 at the Carnival of Speed at McLoughlin High School. Field events start at 10 a.m. with track events beginning at noon.
