Cross-country: Outlaws place third at Baker meet

BAKER CITY — Both the boys’ and girls’ teams for Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa cross county picked up third-place finishes while competing at the Baker Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 28 on the golf course in Baker City.
The Outlaw girls ended the day with 85 points, just behind second-place Union’s 77 point total with La Grande taking the team title with 56 points.

Sophomore Owyhee Harguess was the lone Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa runner in the top 10, placing 10th with a time of 21 minutes, 59.03 seconds. One spot behind was sophomore Abigail Hurley in 11th and a time of 22:04. Freshman Kyra Brown picked up a top 20 placement in 18th with a finish of 22:43.
The boys saw a total of 179 runners take the course and as the last finisher crossed the line, Union, with 53 points, was the top team. The Dalles placed second with a 93-point total and Enterprise’s 104-point total was good enough for third place.
The Outlaws had 23 runners on the course and were led by junior Jett Leavitt in second place and sophomore Jonah Lyman in third place. Leavitt posted a time of 17:09 with Lyman one second back at 17:10. Junior Xander Perry ran a top-25 race, placing 24th after crossing the line in 19:21.
