Thelma Caudle, the 13-year-old Lostine girl who was shot in the abdomen last week, has died. She had been taken to the Wallowa hospital to use the X-ray to locate the bullet and it was found. Nothing could be done to save her, as her bowels were shot thru in several places.
Follow-up: Rhee (Caudle) Lathrop contacted the Chieftain with the rest of the story: Thelma Caudle died of her injury three days after being shot. There were no repercussions for the 15-year-old boy who shot her, as he claimed it was unintentional. However, as an adult he ended up in prison, and years later died there.
