• Wandering away a few minutes from his grandfather, with whom he had been playing, Edward, three-year old son of Mrs. Edith R. Minton, fell into a well at the Buttes last Thursday and was drowned.
• Eighth-grade diplomas are now being given out by Supt. J. C. Conley to pupils who passed the recent state examination or who were advanced by their teachers without examination. As previously noted, a large proportion of those who took the examination failed to pass in all studies …. A second eighth grade examination will be held early in June.
• A proposition for the city to purchase and convert into a park the eight acre tract along the river between River and Depot streets was made to the council Monday night. This is the land suggested as a site for the schools by the Commercial club committee. It is in the center of town, is little improved, can be bought now at a reasonable figure and from the nature of its location can be made into a very pretty park at small expense.
• The band concert last Friday evening showed distinct improvement by the organization, the numbers on the whole being rendered much better than was possible a few months ago. Two new instruments were used for the first time at a concert, a cornet and a bass horn.

• Cecil Best has opened a new grocery store in the building adjoining the Best tourist lodge on the highway. The building has been completely remodeled and an attractive display of groceries is being exhibited. Mr. and Mrs. Best plan on keeping the store open seven days a week. They have named it “Best’s Anytime Grocery”.
• The C. R. Montgomery wild animal circus will be in Enterprise at the fairgrounds Saturday. This circus carries what is claimed to be one of the largest menageries of wild animals in the show world. The mammoth tent will seat an estimated 3,000 persons and is fire proof, circus officials report.
• Classified advertisement: Wanted – 3 old worthless horses for wild animal feed. Inquire at C. R. Montgomery wild animal circus, circus day, Enterprise fairgrounds. Lost – Oregon 1946 license plate No. 58881. Frank Winston, Joseph. Help Wanted – Man must be clean. One day a week off, take your turn for Sunday. Steady employment. Cheese Factory.
• The old building north of the Joseph Sales Company is being razed this week. H. L. Dodd of Enterprise has contracted to tear the building down, Mr. McCully, who owns the building, states that a new and modern building will be erected on the corner as soon as building material is available.

May 26, 1966
• Jerry Goodman at the Eagle Cap Laundry and Cleaners opened the doors of his coin operated car wash last weekend and reports that business is booming. The car wash is located right in the cleaning building across from the courthouse.
• Duane Wiggins of the Wallowa Lake Lodge reported last week that several motors were taken from boats which were docked at the head of the lake. Wiggins stated that five motors were taken sometime after midnight.

• Photo caption: Wallowa county citizens from many walks of life grouped together Saturday morning in an attempt to eradicate a noxious weed in the area north of Wallowa. Medusahead Rye was first discovered in the county last year and through an active campaign its effects were publicized and steps taken to get rid of it. • A flag was raised on a new flag pole for the first time by Jack and Evelyn Wagner over Warde Park last Friday in time for Memorial Day. The park was dedicated in 1989 to Evelyn by her long-time employer Charles Warde, now of Los Angeles.
• Photo caption: Ed Powers Company crew members excavate the lower go-cart track at Wallowa Lake in preparation for a new bumper boat facility that will be open to the public this summer.
• Wallowa County Rotary president Van Van Blaricom last week reported the fact that Don Swart of Enterprise had been recognized as District Rotarian of the Year at the District 510 convention at Seaside this month.
• At the end of the current school year, a total of five long-time Enterprise school district employees are retiring. These include vo-ag instructor Dick Boucher, elementary aide Dorothy Pace, P.E. instructor Dick Quinn, high school secretary Reba Storm, and first grade teacher Mary Lou Victor.
• After 32 years as teacher in Wallowa County, including the past 29 years with the Joseph School District, junior high teacher Dick Nusser is retiring.

• Photo caption: Cory Eagan of Wallowa found this huge half-pound morel mushroom recently while on a mushroom hunting expedition this month with his family “out north”. His father, Roger, declined to give an exact location, explaining that mushroom and firewood sites are something Wallowa County folks like to keep to themselves. Mushroom season is now in full swing.
