LA GRANDE — The Northeast Oregon Rangelands Summit returns for its second year this March at the Armory Conference Center in La Grande.

Wallowa Resources, Oregon State University and the Western Landowners Alliance are organizing the March 18 summit, which will explore how to sustain traditions while also growing the next generation who will manage working lands.

Chad Boyd, rangeland ecologist with OSU, is the 2026 keynote speaker. Boyd is the research leader at the Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center’s Burns Experiment Station.

Focus areas of the summit include virtual fencing technology and grazing technology, deliberate water use, resilient pastures and drought readiness, and workforce development.

The “Growing the Next Generation of Rangeland Stewards” panel will be led by Stacey Barta, Bryan Endress and the Quivira Coalition’s Young Agrarian Apprenticeship. Barta is the state coordinator for rangelands at the Montana Department of Natural Resources while Endress works at the Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center’s Union Experiment Station.

The summit runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory, 404 12th St., in La Grande. Lunch will be provided.
