Harney County man killed in Hwy 7 crash

BAKER COUNTY — A Harney County man was killed in a single-car crash about 15 miles southwest of Baker City, the Oregon State Police reported.
Troopers responded at 7:16 a.m Tuesday, March 24, to the crash site on Highway 7, near milepost 34, in Baker County. Preliminary investigation showed that a northbound Honda Accord, driven by Jonathan Roger Schmeck, 25, of Burns, went off the road for unknown reasons, rolled several times and hit a tree, OSP said in a press release.
Schmeck, who reportedly was not wearing a seat belt, was declared dead at the scene.
The time of the crash is not yet known.
The highway was not closed during the crash investigation. The Baker County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon Department of Transportation provided assistance at the scene.
