Elks honor top hoopsters, students

ENTERPRISE — The Enterprise Elks Lodge No. 1829 has honored local youths for their skill on the basketball court and in the classroom, according to a press release.
The lodge held its annual Hoop Shoot Dec. 12, winners of which were able to go on to district and state competition.
Local winners were Chloe Tippett of Wallowa and Ethan Mahon of Joseph in the 8-9-year-old category, Kora Jackson and Roman Crawford, both of Enterprise, in the 10-11-year-old bracket, and Paisley Grover of Joseph and Hayden Woods of Wallowa in the 12-13-year-old age group.
Grover went on to win her age group at the district competition Jan. 11 at John Day and finish third in the state competition. The top two state winners went to the national contest.
The Elks also announced the winners of the Most Valuable Student Contest. Tyler Knapp and Hannah Sherry, both of Enterprise, each won $1,200 for first place. Casen Cunningham and Jett Leavit, both of Joseph, each won $800 for second place. Tessa Duncan and Andrew Nordtvedt of Enterprise each won $400 for third place.
