‘Fearless’ watercolor wins women’s art exhibit

JOSEPH — Mary Aiwohi won first prize with her watercolor “Fearless,” at the Women’s Exhibit at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture, it was announced Tuesday, March 4.
Aiwohi won $250 for her top prize. The painting was up for sale for $600.
The theme of the exhibit was Horizontal Lines and had its opening reception Feb. 28, complete with live music. Art lovers are still being urged to stop by and cast their votes for the people’s choice award that garners the winner $50.
Coming in second place was Heather Woolery, with “Palouse Hills Haute Couture Pt. 4,” a digital photography work that earned her $150 for the win. It’s on sale for $250.
Third prize and $100 went to Kate Poole for “Lone Tree,” an oil on board work. It’s on sale for $350.
Honorable Mention and a $25 award went to Janis Carper for “This Is The Abstract,” a mixed-media collage with beeswax. It sells for $110.
The Best Young Artist award and $25 went to 16-year-old Kinzie Thompson for her acrylic work “Yellow Bloom.” It sells for $100.
Next up at the center is the Wallow Valley Youth Arts Festival to be April 12-21. The annual event features a display of artwork by area youths, lots of award ribbons, hands-on activities, and open-mic performances. Visit https://tinyurl.com/JosephyYouthArts to sign up.
