HERMISTON — Harrison Park in Hermiston is off limits to the public due to vandalism.
The Hermiston Parks and Recreation Department on its Facebook page posted a notice Monday, Dec. 30, about the park’s closure.
“Unfortunately, Harrison Park has been vandalized. The glass backboard at the basketball court has been shattered, and pieces of glass were intentionally buried in the playground’s wood mulch,” according to the notice.
The department closed the park until further notice while the park crew removes and replaces the wood fiber to ensure the elimination of all glass particles and the area is safe for use.
Shattered glass as of Dec. 30 also was in the grass surrounding the basketball court where the hoop has been removed. The parks department urged the public to use extreme caution when visiting the area.
“Our team is working diligently to clean up all the glass,” the notice stated.
Anyone who finds glass while at the park should handle it with care or notify the parks department for safe removal.
The city parks department also asked anyone with information about the vandalism to contact the Hermiston Parks and Recreation Department or Hermiston Police Department.
