ENTERPRISE — Some $1,261 was raised for the Enterprise Fire Department when about 140 classic and vintage vehicles were on display Friday and Saturday, Aug. 16-17, during this year’s Main Street Show & Shine in Enterprise.

This year’s event — the 10th — included a cruise Friday to Flora, the old stomping grounds of long-time vintage car enthusiast and Show & Shine supporter Don Ward, who died in January. One of his logging trucks led the way there for a lunch put on by his daughter, Carol Ward. The old Flora School was opened for visitors.

On Saturday, Main Street in Enterprise was lined with  vintage and classic cars, trucks and even motorcycles. There even was an ice cream truck provided by Sam Wade of Lostine.

The event was sponsored by the Enterprise Elks Lodge No. 1829 and Main Street Motors.

The money raised for the fire department was done so in a 50/50 drawing for which tickets were sold during the show. The department took part in the show by bringing its vintage 1937 Ford pumper truck downtown.

Fire Chief Paul Karvoski said the money raised would go toward a thermal imaging camera used to find hot spots in fire scenes. He said the department has about $2,500 raised toward the $6,000 camera and whatever it is short would likely come out of the department’s budget.

Awards were provided by TW Bronze, Moonshine Glass, Olaf Pottery, Stangel Industries, Candor Custom, Stein Distillery, the Winners Circle, RDF&P and G&G Engraving, among others.

All original and modified classes by year were scored by a group of judges. Winners received the highest scores for their classes.

The Best In Show entry receiving the most votes from participants was a blue 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu entered by Ruth Lockhart of Burbank, Washington. It was sponsored by Main Street Motors.

Don Ward’s family selected a red 1955 Ford F-100 pickup owned by Randy Schaeffer of Wallowa as the entry to memorialize Ward.
