Wallowa Mountain Cruise is Friday, Saturday

- Truly stylish in its day, this 1931 Packard owned by Louis and Carol Baynes reappeared in Joseph over the weekend for this year’s Wallowa Mountain Cruise.
JOSEPH — Up to 200 classic vehicles will fill the streets of Joseph this weekend with the annual Wallowa Mountain Cruise in Joseph.
Vehicles in 10 classes, from the coveted (King of the Mountain, for best in show) to the entertaining (Shifts and Giggles), ranging from the coveted King of the Mountain (best of show) to entertaining (Shifts and Giggles), will be on display and judged Friday and Saturday, Aug. 23-24.

Born more than 30 years ago by Chuck Garrett of Moonlight Graphics and Jim “Ragman” Tuschhoff, the event was formerly known as the Oregon Mountain Cruise.
Preregistration for the event now is closed. But latecomers can register at the Friday night social hour at the Joseph Community Events Center, 102 E. First St. Registration will also be open Saturday between 7 and 9 a.m. at the Joseph Visitor Booth on Main Street.
A cruise dance for participants 21 and older is scheduled for the streets near the Joseph Community Events Center from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Saturday is the big event, with registration and parking downtown from 7-9 a.m. Participants are asked to not come early. The Show & Shine is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Voting for favorite cars is from 9 a.m. to noon.
Live music is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Then, from 3-4 p.m., the “Ragman Memorial Cruise” will take participants to Enterprise where they’ll parade up Main Street in honor of cruise co-founder Tuschhoff.

Awards will be presented from 5-6 p.m., followed by a catered dinner at the Events Center for those who have purchased dinner tickets.
