A remote camera captured an image of two 5-month-old juvenile wolves of the Wenaha pack on Forest Service lands in northern Wallowa County in September 2020.

LOSTINE — State officials say a 7-month-old lamb was killed by an unknown wolf or wolves in the Minam Wildlife Unit in late May.

In a press release, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife said investigation on May 27 confirmed the kill.

The attack occurred in the Lostine area on private land, ODFW said.

Also, a kill permit for wolves in the Grouse Flats Pack issued May 3 expired May 28 and is no longer in effect.

No wolves were taken under the permit. Three confirmed attacks thus far this year have been attributed to the Grouse Flats Pack.

The May 27 investigation is the eighth of the year in Wallowa County. Earlier in May, the death of a 2-month-old calf southwest of Flora was listed as a “probable” attack.

Two incidents in late April in the Lostine area that killed two ewes and 13 1-month-old lambs were listed as confirmed; ODFW said an unknown wolf or wolves in the Sled Springs Wildlife Management Unit were involved.
