ENTERPRISE — The Wallowa Valley softball team recorded the team’s fifth and sixth consecutive victories with two 3A Special District 4 victories over the Riverside Pirates on Friday, April 26 in Enterprise — but the team’s six-game winning streak ended the following day with a road loss to Weston-McEwen/Griswold.

The Outlaws opened action on Friday with an 11-1 win over the Pirates, with the game going the full seven innings.

In the second game, hometown fans went home early as Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa needed only three innings to place the Pirates back on the bus after a 16-0 victory.

On Saturday, April 27, the Outlaws traveled to Weston-McEwen High School, where they suffered a 7-2 nondistrict loss against the TigerScots.

The Outlaws remain third in the district standings behind league-leading and undefeated in district play Burns/Crane. Vale sits second in the district ranks.

Wallowa Valley returns to action on Friday, May 3, with a double-header at home against Umatilla (5-11 overall, 3-6 in district play). The first pitch in Enterprise is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Outlaws (13-6 overall and 5-3 in district play) are ranked eighth in the official Oregon School Activities Association’s (OSAA) ratings. The latest coaches’ poll, released Wednesday, April 24 by OSAA, had the Outlaws ranked seventh.

The coaches continue to like Scio to win it all. Burns/Crane, a Wallowa Valley Special District opponent of the Outlaws, moved up one spot to second this week in the coaches’ poll. Yamhill-Carlton, South Umpqua and Douglas round out the top five.
