Joseph Charter School’s Jett Leavitt, left, is seen during the boys’ 3A cross-country championship race on Nov. 4, 2023 in Eugene. Leavitt is headed to the state meet in Eugene after winning the 1,500- and 3,000-meter races at the district meet Friday, May 10, 2024 in Baker City.

PORTLAND — While his teammates were competing at McLoughlin High School on Friday, April 26, Joseph senior Jett Leavitt was showing the best of the state his talents at the Nike/Jesuit Twilight Relays on the track at Jesuit High School in Portland.

Running against an elite group of 30 runners, Leavitt won first place in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8 minutes, 45.10 seconds, his best race time in his career. In proof of how fast the field was, the top seven finishers all recorded personal best times. Leavitt was no exception; he carved just under 40 seconds off his season-best time to take the win in Portland.

As an individual, Leavitt has not lost a race this season.

Leavitt was scheduled to rejoin his teammates as Joseph traveled to Weston-McEwen on Tuesday, April 30.
