Outlaws split double-header in Vale

VALE — The Wallowa Valley softball team hit the road on Friday, April 12 to start 3A Special District 4 play versus the Vale Vikings and headed back home with a hard-won split.

The Outlaws, ranked ninth in the 3A ranks, saw the home Vikings take a 6-2 victory to start the two games.

Game two required extra innings to settle after the teams played to a 6-6 tie.

In the top of the ninth inning, the Outlaws pushed two runs across the plate. The Outlaw defense held Vale in the bottom of the inning to hand the team a split for the day with an 8-6 victory.

The Outlaws (7-3 overall, 1-1 3A Special District 4) were scheduled to continue with both district play and road games on Monday, April 15 with two games against the district leader, the Burns/Crane Hilanders. Results of those games will be posted on wallowa.com.

The Hilanders, fifth in the state 3A rankings, host the Outlaws riding a nine-game winning streak.
