Youth Art Fridays program starts April 5

JOSEPH — An eight-week session of drawing and painting classes for youths begins Friday, April 5, during Youth Art Fridays at the Joseph Center for Arts and Culture in Joseph.

The center is at 403 N. Main St.

The session runs through May 24. Kids ages 5-8 years old meet from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and kids aged 8-12 meet from 1-2:30 p.m.

Cost is $60 for both levels.

Mary Ambroson, who has over 35 years of experience teaching art and music in Montessori and conventional methods, will lead the six-week class on the basics of drawing and painting. Parents of 8-year-olds can choose which group is best suited for their child.

Students also will look at the art of Laurel Burch, Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh and other artists with diverse styles each week and a create a piece depicting the varying type of art (cubism, impressionism, abstract, etc.) using pencil drawing, watercolors, tempera or acrylic paint, colored pencils and pastels.
