Cougars, Eagles collect all-league honors

- Basketball is the leading cause of youth sports injuries, according to a new study from Johns Hopkins University.
At the conclusion of the 1A Old Oregon League tournament, coaches gathered and named players to the all-league team.
Due to the enormity of the league, the honorees are split into the Meacham and Ladd divisions with Joseph and Wallowa placed into the Ladd division.

For the boys, Joseph senior Kane Johnson ends his final year as a first-team honoree.
Wallowa placed two selections on the second team, juniors Gabe Nobles and Isaac Barnum.
On the girls’ side, the Cougars had three players earn league honors, starting with seniors Sophie Moeller and Zoe Hermens on the first team. The duo are joined by Cougar junior Abby Straight on the second team.
Joseph senior Aimee Meyers earned first-team honors and Eagle sophomore Caleigh Johnson won a spot on the second team.
The boys’ Player of the Year was Union’s Justin Frost.
The girls’ Co-Players of the Year were Jodi Bingham of Powder Valley and Rachael Stirewalt of Imbler.
