Tuesday basketball previews: Joseph hits the road for Pine Valley

Basketball is the leading cause of youth sports injuries, according to a new study from Johns Hopkins University. 

The Joseph Eagles basketball teams head to Powder Valley on Tuesday, Feb. 6 for their last road trip of the regular season. Here are previews of both games:

Joseph girls at Powder Valley

When: 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Records: Joseph 9-10 overall, 5-2 1A Old Oregon League; Powder Valley 14-6 overall, 7-1 1A Old Oregon League.

OSAA rankings: Joseph is No. 20. Powder Valley is No. 10.

Overview: Coming off a home win over Pine Eagle, the Lady Eagles are back on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 6 to take on Powder Valley. Joseph is looking for a better result than the last time the two teams met: On Jan. 19, the Lady Badgers clipped the Eagles, 52-15, the team’s worst loss of the year.

The Joseph girls currently sit fifth in the league standings, two games behind Imbler in fourth.

Powder Valley is again on the home court after a win over Imbler on Friday, Feb. 2 before the hometown fans. The Badgers are riding a six-game winning streak and sit third in the Old Oregon League standings.

Time: 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Records: Joseph 8-11 overall, 4-3 1A Old Oregon League; Powder Valley 8-13 overall, 2-6 1A Old Oregon League.

OSAA rankings: Joseph is 46th. Powder Valley is 47th.

Overview: The Eagle boys are riding a three-game winning streak, including a 35-27 victory over this same Powder Valley team on Jan. 19. Joseph is fifth in the league standings, a lone game behind Echo and just ahead of county rival Wallowa. This is the last road game of the regular season for the Eagles, who wrap up the regular season up with a pair of games at home.

Powder Valley looks to bounce back after a home loss to Imbler on Friday, Feb. 2. Tied for ninth in the Old Oregon League standings with Elgin, the Badger boys are one win back from the Rockets of Pilot Rock.
