Girls basketball: Wallowa wallops Cove, 50-9

Basketball is the leading cause of youth sports injuries, according to a new study from Johns Hopkins University. 

WALLOWA — The Wallowa girls’ basketball team made the most of its first home game since Jan. 12, rolling over the Cove Leopards 50-9 on Thursday, Feb. 1.

The Lady Cougars dominated the game, leading 29-8 at halftime and holding the Leopards to a single point in the second half.

Sophie Moeller led all scorers in the game with 14 points. Zoe Hermans matched her jersey number with 11 points and Abby Straight ended the game with 10 points.

Wallowa (13-8 overall, 4-4 1A Old Oregon League) is back in the Cougar gym on Friday, Feb. 2 with a 6 p.m. game versus Pine Eagle (7-13 overall, 1-6 1A Old Oregon League).
