Wrestling roundup: Joseph girls finish fourth at Heppner meet

HEPPNER — Three wrestlers represented the Joseph girls’ wrestling team at the Bank of Eastern Oregon tournament in Heppner with all three placing third or better as the meet wrapped up on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Lachlan Thompson finished the tournament second at 115 pounds. Thompson started her tournament with a pin over teammate Sarah Musia, and advanced to the second round, where she lost to Heppner’s Denisse Bracamontes in an 11-7 decision.

Musia placed third in the 115-pound class. After falling to Thompson in round one, Musia lost by pin to Bracamontes to wrap up the tournament.

Joseph’s third wrestler, Gwendalyn Bostedt, placed third in the 135-pound division. Bostedt started the tournament with a loss by pin to Crane’s Verity Hall and was pinned by Heppner’s Journey Cavan-Harris by pin in round two.

In the team standings, the Eagle girls placed fourth with four points.

Joseph boys finish 12th HEPPNER — The Joseph boys wrestling team placed 12th in the team standings as action wrapped up on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Bank of Eastern Oregon tournament in Heppner.

The top individual finish for the Eagles came with Jayden McNall’s fourth-place showing in the 132-pound division. McNall finished 4-2 for the day, falling in the battle for third place to Hood River Valley’s Leyton Adams by pin at the 1 minute, 46 second mark in the match.

At 138 pounds, Austin Schultz finished sixth after wrestling to a 3-3 showing, falling in the battle for fifth to Hood River Valley’s Abelardo Gomez Gordian by pin.

Outlaws’ Eaves places seventhHOOD RIVER — Joining 38 teams from both Oregon and Washington, the Enterprise girls wrestling team compiled 13 points to finish 35th in the team standings at the Hood River Valley Girls Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27.

The top finish for the Outlaws came in the 110-pound class as Kaylee Eaves finished her day seventh. After winning her first two matches, Eaves was pinned by La Grande’s Florecita Villagomez in the quarterfinal and was forced into the consolation bracket. Eaves suffered her second loss by pin to Reynolds’ Solia Herrera before bouncing back to end on a high note with a 9-2 decision over Lakeview’s Avery Rosecrans in the battle for fifth place.
