Waste plan, forest update on commissioners’ agenda

ENTERPRISE — A presentation on a proposed waste-reduction plan and an update on the East Moraine Community Forest will be the highlights of the Wednesday, Jan. 17, meeting of the Wallowa County Board of Commissioners.
The meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the Thornton Conference Room of the courthouse at 101 S. River St. in Enterprise.

Peter Ferre of the Friends of Wallowa County Recycling will give an introduction on the waste-reduction plan and begin a discussion of a proposed Waste Reduction and Recycling Improvement Plan. Ferre has addressed the commissioners numerous times about recycling in the past.
Also on the agenda is Nils Christoffersen, executive director of Wallowa Resources, who spearheaded the county’s acquisition and plan for the community forest.
Also on the agenda, the commissioners are expected to:
• Approve a collective bargaining agreement with the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office.
• Approve an extension to the completion date of work Wellens General Contractors is doing at the fairgrounds.
