ENTERPRISE — In an attempt to wrap up an issue from previous council meetings, the Enterprise City Council at its Monday, Jan. 8 meeting heard a recommendation from its Fire Department Committee to purchase oxygen tanks requested by the city Fire Department.

The committee recommended using $28,000-$31,000 of the city’s American Rescue Plan Act Funds to purchase the tanks for the city Fire Department.

But the committee does not want to allocate the remaining funds to buy an air compressor to fill the tanks until it is known if an application for a grant from the Wildhorse Foundation will be approved.

Fire Chief Paul Karvoski said he will provide city Administrator Lacey McQuead an exact cost for the tanks, in order for her to prepare a resolution to place before the council at its February meeting.

In another matter, McQuead explained the quote for insurance received by City County Insurance Services through Wheatland Insurance in an intergovernmental agreement with the Oregon Department of the State Fire Marshal. She said the approximate cost is $3,800 per year and that there is an additional cost for the personal injury and death coverage listed in the intergovernmental agreement.

She said she has yet to hear from Wheatland what the anticipated additional cost will be. The council approved a motion to approve the agreement between the city and the Fire Marshal’s office, providing that the cost for the insurance does not exceed $4,000. The motion carried.

Also Monday, councilors approved the lineup for the council’s 2024 committees. Committee chairs are Mayor Ashley Sullivan for the Administrative Committee, Councilor Brandon Miller for the Fire Department Committee, Sullivan for the Library Department Committee, Council Jeffrey Yanke for the Police Department Committee, Councilor Eric Stangel for the Public Works Committee, Councilor David Elliott for the Motel Tax Committee, Councilor Corey Otten for the Airport Committee and Rick Freeman for the Projects Committee.

In other business, the council:

• Approved removing the event permit for the Eagle Cap Extreme Sled Dog Races as the event has been canceled.

• Accepted the resignation of Planning Commissioner Margie Shaw, effective Dec. 16. She and husband, Donavon Shaw, are donating the sleigh they use to portray Santa and Mrs. Claus at Winterfest to the city for a donation amount of $2,500. The council agreed and accepted the resignation.

• Heard department reports. In those reports, Fire Chief Karvoski and Public Works Superintendent Spencer Shelton said their departments are ready for this week’s winter storm.

• Set the next council meeting for Feb. 12.
