ENTERPRISE — The January edition of Fishtrap Fireside will spotlight three Wallowa County writers: Jim Dameron, Talia Filipek, and Zanni Schauffler.

The event begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Fishtrap, at 107 W. Main St. in Enterprise.

Fishtrap Fireside is a monthly reading series showcasing local writers, poets, and storytellers of all kinds.

Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Snacks are provided with drinks available for purchase. Anyone unable to attend in person can access the event online at fishtrap.org and on Fishtrap’s YouTube Channel.

Here’s information about January’s readers:

• Jim Dameron is an essayist, poet, and one of the writer’s featured in the January Fishtrap Fireside. He’s been published in The Missouri Review, Agni, the Mid-American Review among several other literary journals. On May 15, he went from being in perfect health to being totally paralyzed as the result of a rare disease — Guillain Barre syndrome. He’s no longer paralyzed, and is still trying to process a very intense and terrifying experience.

• Talia Filapek is a mother who manages two tiny humans and celebrates being alive by condensing the world, love, and enduring souls into shareable images using her camera. In rare moments she puts pen to paper to decode the inevitable whirlwind of emotion and sense memories that result. Having received the Bryn Lunde Memorial Scholarship, she was able to devote a week last summer with the seasoned writers and poet laureates at Summer Fishtrap. She lives in Joseph.

• Zanni Schauffler uses letters and words along with other types of media to make all sorts of art. In Enterprise she lives with Frank, a man, their large dog Ferdinand and two long-haired cats named Humphrey and Blondie. Schauffler has won an Oregon Literary Fellowship and is proud to be a published poet. She’s hard at work on her follow-up book as her first still awaits publication.
