Basketball: Joseph starts season at BB Bonanza in Ione

IONE — Hometown basketball fans of Joseph will need to wait some before cheering on the Eagles on the home court as both the boys and girls start the basketball season on the road at the Ione BB Bonanza starting Friday, Dec. 1 at Ione High School.

The Eagle boys start the year after a 13-9 overall finish last season, a year that saw Joseph drop their final four games, including a 1A Old Oregon League playoff game to Echo.

The Joseph girls will also start their season in Ione after seeing a 6-16 season last year including also seeing a tough finish to the year, dropping their final seven matchups, including a league playoff game to Union.

The Eagle girls kick off the BB Bonanza with a 6 p.m. game on Friday, Dec. 1 versus the host Cardinals of Ione/Arlington. The earlier game on Friday pits Powder Valley against Trout Lake with the winner of the games meeting Saturday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. The losers of the Friday games will meet at noon Saturday.

The Joseph boys will also take on Ione/Arlington with the game slated for Friday at 7:30 p.m. As with the girls, the other side of the bracket has Powder Valley and Trout Lake taking the court. The winners of the two games will play for the championship on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. with the battle for third place hitting the court at 1:30 p.m.
