Letter: Thanks to Bloom for book-ban stance

I wanted you to know how much our family enjoyed “The Case Against Book Bans” by Ann Bloom in the Oct. 11 edition of the Chieftain. It really struck a chord. My (adult) daughter says that the Enterprise Library displays alternating selections “banned books” to draw attention to the problem of banning books.
Books (such as “Tom Sawyer” and “Huckleberry Finn”) offer us a “snapshot in time” and should not be banned for ideas or language that lets us know a slice of history. We can’t change history, no matter what our current opinions may be. These books may even tell us how not to act, giving the reader an insight into the feelings of others from that particular place and time. Kudos to the Enterprise librarian and to Ann Bloom.
We have enjoyed other opinion articles by Ann Bloom. Thank you, Ann.
