Outlaw boys win spot in state cross-country meet

PENDLETON — After moving down to the 3A division last season, the Sisters boys’ cross-country team outpointed the Enterprise boys in the running of the 3A District 3 meet on Friday, Oct. 27 at Pendleton Community Park.

The second-place finish by the Outlaws does qualify the team for the upcoming state meet to be held at Lane Community College in Eugene on Nov. 4.

Sisters ended the day with 44 points while Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa finished the day with 65 points.

The Outlaws were led in the day by sophomore Jonah Lyman’s second-place finish, behind only Vale’s Trevor Stewart. Lyman finished just over one second behind Stewart with a time of 16 minutes, 6.3 seconds, his best time ever in his high school career.

Joining Lyman at the state meet will be teammates Xander Perry and Jett Leavitt. Perry was just outside the top 10 at the district meet, placing 12th with a time of 17:39.3, a personal-best time for the Outlaw. Leavitt was one spot behind in 13th , crossing the line in 17:43.6.

After placing 18th at the district meet, Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa junior Lucas Goodrich is state bound after running under 18 minutes for his first time ever, posting a time of 17:56.3. Sophomore Jenning Scheifelbein will be on the bus after placing 20th and a time of 18:22.9, a personal best. One spot behind in 21st was sophomore Colton Keffer, also running his best time ever of 18:26.2.

The final Outlaw runner making the trip to state will be sophomore Isaac Beachy after placing 25th with a time of 18:56.2, again a personal best.

The Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa boys will take on the rest of the state on Saturday, Nov. 4 on the campus of Lane Community College in Eugene with the Outlaw boys taking off from the starting line at 10 a.m.
