Cross-country: Outlaw boys dominate at La Grande; girls place second

LA GRANDE COUNTRY CLUB — Facing runners from host and 4A La Grande Tigers as well as 1A Imbler, the Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa boys cross-country team grabbed seven of the top 10 positions and the team title in the running of the Tiger Invite on Friday, Oct. 6 on the grounds of the La Grande Country Club.
The Outlaws finished the day with 21 points. Host La Grande, placing 56 points on the board, was second and Imbler’s 59 points was a third-place showing.

To the surprise of no one, Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa sophomore Jett Leavitt led from start to finish, winning the race in 16 minutes, 50.90 seconds. Just under six seconds behind was teammate and sophomore Jonah Lyman, with a time of 16:56.40. The Outlaws also saw finishes by Xander Perry (fifth place), Jenning Scheifelbein (sixth place), Isaac Beachy (seventh place), Lucas Goodrich (eighth place) and Colton Keffer (ninth place) to round out the top 10.
The Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa girls placed second in the team scores behind host La Grande. The Outlaw girls saw the Tigers’ 22 points just ahead of their own 35 points while Imbler finished with 84 points.
Sophomore Abigail Hurley was just outside a top-five finish, placing sixth with a time of 21:46.10 while fellow sophomore Owyhee Harguess was one spot back in seventh and a time of 21:46.10. Freshman Kyra Brown, sophomore Mary Hellinger and sophomore Zion Boyd also placed in the top 10 runners for the race.
