WALLOWA COUNTY — Two more incidents of confirmed or possible wolf kills of livestock were reported during the past week to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
A 5-month-old calf was confirmed as having been killed Thursday, June 15, on private land in the Noregaard area by the Wildcat Pack, the department reported.
Two more dead calves were reported Friday, June 16, also in the Noregaard area in the northern part of Wallowa County, ODFW reported. One of the calves was determined as the victim of a possible or unknown predator and the other dead calf was determined as “other.”
ODFW classifies animal deaths as “confirmed” as having been caused by a predator or “possible/unknown” when there isn’t sufficient evidence to classify an incident as either confirmed or probable predation. A kill is classified as “probable” depending on numerous factors, the ODFW website says.
These kills come on the heels of reports from June 6-14, when incidents of possible wolf kills of calves and sheep were reported in the Lostine and Grouse Flat areas.
